What are you involved in at CA?
I am an editor on The Centipede (student-run newspaper), an associate at the Writing Center, and serve on the school’s Discipline Committee. I am a percussionist in the Percussion Ensemble and participate in three athletic teams: soccer, basketball, and track and field. This year I will serve as a student ambassador for the Positivity and Light Society (PALS), CA’s community service outreach program.
Why did you choose CA?
CA is unique in that it allows me to pursue many of my interests—in athletics, journalism, community service, and performing arts. I never feel like I have to give up something to explore diverse interests. I also enjoy how accessible and supportive teachers are for their students. Over the last three years, I have had the opportunity to meet with my teachers outside of class during office hours and build meaningful relationships with my faculty advisors.
What is your favorite activity at CA and why?
Being a part of CA’s basketball program, I have cultivated so many lasting friendships and memories. During the winter season, there is no better way to end a full day of classes than spending it with my team. Catching up with my teammates on bus rides and being a part of the tight-knit community has truly been one of the most special parts of my time at CA.
Advice to prospective students?
Don’t be afraid to try something new. With CA’s abundant resources, you have so many opportunities to explore academic and extracurricular areas that you would have never encountered before. There is time in the school schedule to learn music, participate in clubs, play sports, and spend time with the community—on and off campus. From taking a dance class, joining new clubs, and picking up a new sport, I have had so many enriching experiences from going outside of my comfort zone and trying something new.
Share a moment where you knew you belonged at CA.
Last summer, I went on CA’s trip to the Bavarian Alps with a few of my friends. Leading up to departure, I was pretty nervous, as this was my first time traveling with a school group. Upon landing in Germany, however, I knew this was just the experience I needed. I was immediately welcomed in by classmates of all grades whom I hadn’t spoken to before, and the faculty on the trip seemingly removed all jitters of being outside the country. This week in Germany and Austria is one of my favorite moments of being in the CA community, and I will forever cherish the friendship and memories made throughout the trip.
